Steps for downloading and saving a pre-created SMART lesson
Go to a site with SMART lessons (www.education.smarttech.com)
Find a lesson that you might want to use.
Click the download icon.
You will be asked to open or save the lesson.
At this point, open the lesson so you can view it. It will open in a SMART file. You can view the lesson and see if you like it.
If you like the lesson (even if you only like part of the lesson), go to file, save as and save the lesson in your smart lesson folder on your h-drive.
Once you have saved your lesson, you will be able to modify it as necessary. You will also have it on your h-drive to use at any time, rather than having to continuously go online to find it.
If you only like part of the lesson, you can delete the pages you don’t want and then save your changes.

Steps for combining lessons
Open up both lessons at one time.
Resize the SMART windows so you can see both lessons.
Select the page on one lesson that you want to bring into a second lesson. Click, hold, drag and drop into the second lesson. Remember, you can easily move the pages around later, so it really doesn’t matter where you drop it initially.
You can only move one page at a time.

Steps for saving a SMART lesson in more than one location:
If you have a lesson saved on your h-drive (or in any other location) and you want to save a copy of it somewhere else, there are two options:
Option 1:
Open up the saved SMART lesson.
Go to File, Save As and save to the second location by browsing your computer.

Option 2:
Open up “my computer” and find the lesson you have saved.
Open up a second window from “my computer” and find the location you want to save your lesson to.
Once you have the location selected, go back to the lesson you are saving to a second place and click, hold, drag and drop into the new location.
You might get a message stating something about a security flaw. Just ignore this by clicking continue.

When collaborating with others:
Remember to share lessons! Also, please also save an original copy somewhere on your h-drive!
When you create a lesson you want to share there are a couple of options:
Option 1:
Save the lesson to your h-drive first. (Network drive or local file)
Follow the steps for saving to team content and place it there for others to access.
Option 2:
Save the lesson to your h-drive first.(Network drive or local file)
Open up a “my computer” window and find the lesson you want to share.
Open up a second “my computer” window and find the other location you want to save it to (the SMART drive or common folder would be a great place to save).
Go back to the first “my computer” window where the lesson you want to save is located. Click, hold, drag and drop the lesson into the second “my computer” window in the drive you want to save it to.

Steps for saving to the Gallery (MY CONTENT)

Option 1:
Click on a page, hold the mouse left button down.
Drag the page to the Gallery Tab
Drop into My Content or a My Content folder - that you have created

Option 2:
Select the page in the properties tab
Click the black drop down arrow and select: Add page to Gallery

Steps for saving a SMART lesson to your sub folder:
It is very helpful to have lessons saved to your sub folder in case you are out a day. It might also be helpful as you create daily lessons that you use to drag a copy into the Sub folder as well. If you do a daily lunch menu, etc. on the SMART board, it would be great to have this saved in the sub folder as well.
Open up “my computer” and find the lesson (or lessons) you want to save to your sub folder.
Open up a second “my computer” window and go to the Subs drive, East Folder, and find your room number. Remember, your sub will only see your folder!
Go back to the lesson in the first “my computer” window and click, hold, drag and drop it into your sub folder.
It might be helpful to create folders within your sub folder to help the sub be able to find things easier. To do this, right click in your sub folder and go to new-folder. Title the folder (ex: L.Arts). You could have multiple folders within the sub folder.

Saving to Team Content
First save the lesson to your h-drive
Open up “my computer” and find the lesson you want to save to the team content folder.
Open up the SMART notebook software. Go to the gallery tab and find and highlight the team content folder you will be saving a lesson to.
Go back to the “my computer” screen. Click, hold, drag and drop the lesson from there into the highlighted team content folder. It will save wherever you drop it, so make sure you have the right folder highlighted.
